Google Sitemaps & WordPress 2.0.5

After upgrading to WordPress 2.0.5 I started experiencing an odd problem when posting my entries. PHP was running out of memory with 16 MB allocated, a problem I traced back to the maybe_serialize function found in wp-includes/functions.php. As the entries were properly saved each time, I decided that I could just live with the problem, or at least until a WordPress patch would be posted, or I knew the actual cause. I wasn’t patient enough, however, so I decided to muck around with my set up a bit.
My first thought was that some of the installed plugins might be the culprit. Thus, I disabled one by one, saving an unpublished entry in between changes. Once I disabled Arne Brachhold’s Google Sitemap plugin, my problem promptly vanished. Apparently, something in his plugin is a great resource hog, but what precisely I’ve jet to figure out. After disabling it, I could change PHP’s memory limit back to 8 MB from 32 MB. My sitemap is unavailable until I figure out and fix the problem. If anyone else has experienced this, feel free to leave your comments and ideas.
